Review by Aoife Doyle

Suzanne Collins is also the author of the best selling series the Underland Chronicles.

The Hunger Games is part one of The Hunger Games Trilogy which also includes   Catching Fire and Mokingjay.

Plot - It is a story about a world where the capitol rules over the 12 districts very strictly. The 12 districts are very poor and the capitol is overly rich which is led by the president snow. Once a year every year a boy and a girl are chosen from every district to participate in the huger games which only one person can survive. The trilogy is revolved around a girl called Katniss Everdeeen who is from the least important district, district 12. she steps forward to participate in the hunger games instead of her sister Prim when she was called up, risking her life, and the welfare of her family that depend upon her ability to hunt in order to survive. Also called up from district 12 is Peeta the baker’s son, who grew up with her. Katniss and Peeta must fend for themselves against natural elements, the Gamemakers and the other contestants whose only option is to kill or be killed.

I would recommend this book to all ages especially teenagers. They appeal to many needs for girls and boys as these books tell a good love story but also show a violent side. It is a riveting book and will keep you entertained and leaving wanting more.  I really enjoyed getting to know the characters in this book. Suzanne Collins gives us a deep insight to the characters and their lives. I disliked some of the fighting scenes throughout this book as I found some of them hard to follow and understand, but overall this is a well written book and I highly recommend you read it as I enjoyed it very much.
