THe gates

Picture

By Abby Beale

It was always there, black, tall, rusty. The gate was object of many people's nightmares,a pathway to hell some said, don't go in is something we were taught from a young age.

The gate looked seedy during the day,a place for dirty teens to go have a fag or a drink of Guinness. During the night it looked evil, home to childsnatchers, armed gunmen and terrorists. Little did I know I was actually not far off these descriptions.

My friend Finn was a bad influence,my mother told me that when she first met him,but at the time we were thick as thieves.Normally I could make him see reason, but today was not one of these "normal" days.Obviously Finn would ask to do something stupid like sit under the bridge on a ledge, have a smoke or something awful like that, and normally I said no..but like I said, today was not a normal day.

"Hey weirdo!Hey..Juli don't ignore me!"he yelled at me across the yard. Sighing I looked up from my book,Darry Pooler and the Designer From Alcatraz. "Finn, hey. No offence but what do you want?"

I sighed, looking very annoyed. Finn feigned hurt

"Juli,i'm ashamed, why I feel offended! Here I come to offer to you a day of merriment, and you're here being..being MEAN!" People were staring at us,so I just looked at Finn and motioned to go on.

"Juli Ericks, will you come to THE most AMAZING teenage hangout today?"he asked me,his green eyes boring into my hazel ones. "Sure, but it is after school, right?"I asked, because I was not about to go on the hop and get a ticket to detention.

Finn shook his head,so it obviously was meant to happen during school.

"Oh no my dear friend, this invite is for the entire day, come with me and we'll go eat till we burst and be merry!"he said joyfully.

"Finn...this will be on my record,i'll go with you after school, but not now." i told him.

He nodded then left, off to go have a smoke. I waited until the final bell sounded to find Finn again,I told mam I was staying in Annie's house. She approved of Annie,so I knew she wouldn't question this.Annie moved to France a year ago,but what mam doesn't know wont hurt her. I saw Finn waiting at the school fountain,on his phone, looking at Outergram.

Smiling I pranced over, giving him a hug.Silently we walked to this secret location. We passed the old tree that Old Man Dave is said to have buried his wife's cat,the grimy petrol station with crazy Mrs.Pan the owner, and arrived at the terror inducing, tall, black, rusty gate...

"Why did we stop here, can't we go to uh,the new ice-cream parlour?"I asked panicking.

Finn shook his head, then opened the gate, leaving me alone.Scared of being left behind, I followed him,a stupid move on my part.. Empty beer cans and old cigarets littered the muddy path.A smell of human urine punctured the air in unusual spots.A few dead mice and even a dead fox lay decomposing, the smell was putrid.

"Why are we here, why did you bring me here Finn?!"I asked in a voice barely above a whisper

"I have been waiting for this moment for years,Julieta Amora Ericks."Finn said in a voice that sounded like one an elderly man would use,but harsher.

Scared and suddenly aware of the darkness,I turned to run away. But a sharp,no clawed hand grabbed onto my arm.I turned back to see a massive, deep green monster with Finn's green eyes and brown badly cut hair. A scream,MY scream echoed the trail, terrified I lashed out at this Finn like monster.Stupid to do so really,as the grip tightened. An erie smile painted the beast's grotesque face.

"You really shouldn't run, Julieta." the creature rasped, smile never moving.

I screamed again,louder this time,with more feeling and volume.A dog barked,close by I hoped.

"HELP,HELP!"I yelled before Finn clamped an arm around my mouth. I took a chance and bit hard into his oily, scaly skin.It tasted like rotten fish, and undercooked eggs with overcooked boiled cabbage.

"YOU LITTLE DEMON!"it bellowed, clasping it's arm,I saw drooping blue blood seep through. Seeking a gap in the hold,I kicked back, hit a sore spot and ran,ran far far away. The monster didn't chase me,instead smiled that erie smile and said this

"Don't fall asleep tonight, for you shall not wake up"

The End.....
